Vecchie Terre di Montefili
The Vecchie Terre di Montefili estate sits atop a chain of hills that lead
out from Panzano on the way to Greve. Sitting at 550 metres above sea level it
is one of the higher vineyards in the area and looks down on nearest neighbours,
Fontodi and Castello di Rampolla. Like them, the focus at this estate is on
sangiovese and the expression of the uniquely spare and stoney
terroir so much a feature of the 20 hectares of vineyards on the
property. Years have been dedicated to clonal research and the while
others in Chianti Classico have obsessed
on making international styles of wine, the Acuti family have always
focussed on making their wines (including their one Cabernet, Bruno di
Rocca) speak of their origins. In keeping with this the wines are classic
and pure in style accentuating the variety and the mineral-laden earth from
which they come.
The main wines are the Chianti Classico which
is 100% sangiovese with maturation for 12 months in large slavonian oak.
The Anfiteatro; again 100% sangiovese but with 12 months maturation is 350
litre french oak and finally the 60/40 blend of cabernet sauvignon and
sangiovese, Bruno di Rocca. In addition to these wines, when vintage
conditions permit a Riserva is produced.
