SPERI LUNCH WITH GIUSEPPE SPERI

Saturday 8th August 12 pm - 2pm

There is a very small number of producers in Valpolicella that I would buy from every year regardless of the vintage conditions; Speri stands firmly among them. Speri is top-notch across the board. ERIC GUIDO, Vinous

If you're looking at the great family names of Valpolicella, Speri sits comfortably among the region's most respected producers. The Speri story stretches back to the early 1800s, making them one of the oldest continuously operating wine families in Valpolicella, and today 7th generation and tireless ambassador, Giuseppe Speri, is in charge of operations.

They were among the first producers in Valpolicella to bottle single-vineyard wines, beginning in the 1970s when the concept of "cru" wines was still relatively uncommon in Italy. Their Amarone Classico Vigneto Monte Sant Urbano remains one of the classic vineyard-designated wines of the region. They also pioneered the "Pergoletta Speri" training system, a refinement of the traditional Veronese pergola that improves sunlight exposure and airflow. What began as an experiment on their estate has since become one of the most widely adopted vineyard systems in Valpolicella.

Alongside his cousins, Giuseppe has overseen the expansion of the estate to around 60 hectares, along with the conversion to fully certified organic viticulture, making them the largest organic producer in Valpolicella's Classico. Under his stewardship, Speri has earned a reputation as one of the reference-point producers of Valpolicella, admired by collectors and critics alike for wines that combine depth and longevity with freshness and elegance.

Join us alongside Giuseppe Speri as he takes us through the incredible range of one of Valpolicella's most revered estates. This will be a unique and fantastic opportunity to speak to one of the great families of Italian wine and try a vertical of their most famous expression of Amarone.

With a light lunch from the Bellota kitchen matched to these amazing wines and a limited number of places, it’s a must-attend event.
