Sandrone is now a historic estate, but the wines keep getting better and more finessed, a testament to the drive for perfection that runs through every aspect of this exemplary winery... Luciano Sandrone is making some of his finest wines in what has been a long and extraordinary career full of successes. That in and of itself is a testament to Sandrone family’s relentless quest to improve. Of the Piedmont wineries that are still in their first generation, those that started in or around the 1980s, Luciano Sandrone is arguably the only estate that has joined the small group of properties, all of them multi-generational, whose wines are widely recognized as icons and collectibles. ANTONIO GALLONI
When you're talking about producers who have changed the face of Barolo in the last 30 years, then very close to the top of the list is Luciano Sandrone. His gorgeous Baroli epitomise the idea that Barolo can be both uniquely of its place but also made within a modern vinification framework. In addition, these are now among the most highly prized for any collector of the region's best wines.
Join us for this tasting featuring the new releases from Sandrone including the Sibi et Paucis program Luciano put in place to ensure there were always aged examples of his wines. Recognising that too many were already sold out before anyone got to enjoy them in their true aged glory he now releases small amounts each year which have been cellared in his cantina, ensuring perfect provenance.
Earlier this year Luciano passed away so this is an especially poignant time to be drinking his wines and we'll be treating it as an opportunity to 'toast' a seminal figure in Barolo. Hopefully we will be able "zoom-in" to daughter Barbara briefly so she can tell us about the vintage and give an overview of the wines on tasting.
