Rockburn

Rockburn produces premium wines of intense varietal characteristics in Central Otago, the world's most southerly grape-growing region. Central Otago, at 45º south, has a climate similar to Burgundy, France, the great Pinot Noir producing region of the world.

Handpicked grapes from the Parkburn and Gibbston Valley Back Road Vineyards reflect Rockburn's unique terroir. The resulting wines fully express the complex subtleties available only in New Zealand's one true continental climate. ROCKBURN

Consistently capturing gold medal and trophy awards for Pinot Noir, many see Rockburn Wines as one of Central Otago's rock stars. The operation, headed by well-known surgeon Dick Bunton, is extremely well-capitalised and makes continental climate wines from its vineyards sited in Parkburn and Gibbston. Winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis, has upped the ante with the range, and already, the Rockburn wines are showing considerable character and interest. RAYMOND CHAN, raymondchanwinereviews.co.nz
