Querciabella CC Riserva 19'
… the best of these (2019 Riservas) epitomise what I prize about this vintage: Val delle Corti shows tension and finesse; Querciabella is energetic; and Il Molino di Grace is beautifully expressive. DECANTER
Readers will find some of the standouts to be from Istine, Monsanto, Querciabella, and Brancaia. AUDREY FRICK
Manfred Ing and his team at Querciabella presented a terrific set of wines. The move towards greater energy and vibrancy that started a handful of years ago is evident. It's hard to know where to start, as all of these wines are deserving of a mention. ANTONIO GALLONI
2019 Vintage: A vintage characterized by ideal conditions without drought or significant heat spikes, the wines are fresh yet have wonderful concentration overall and ripe tannins. AUDREY FRICK

While Chianti Classico conveys some of the purest forms of sangiovese, it is the Riservas that are revered for their power and longevity. With the introduction of the somewhat confusing Gran Selezione level, the mighty Riservas are getting a little lost in the shuffle. If aged Chianti is your poison, you need some of these Querciabella’s in your cellar - they're the top rated Riserva of the vintage by Walter Speller!
With age, Chianti can take on beguiling hints of mushrooms and mulch – not enough to overwhelm the perfumed fruits and florals of the core if drunk at their prime. The tannins become slinky and slender, add curvature to the palate.
This beauty from Querciabella is a blend of low-yielding sites from Greve, Gaiole and Radda, it’s brimming with intensity and torque for excellent long-term aging. There’s a sublime synergy between fruit and tannin. Larger botti and barrique (just 20% new) season the fruit while adding a supporting spine of tannins.
Winemaker Manfred Ing was recommended for the top job by Luca Currado from Vietti at this biodynamically run estate Querciabella. His sensibilities were honed working alongside Currado who consulted to the estate for many years. Under Ing’s watch he’s backed off on the oak and married fruit intensity to structure mindfully, bringing more energy and vibrancy to the wines.
This 2019 was the top-rated Riserva by Walter Speller (he also took a shine to the 18’). Elegantly styled it combines the freshness of the vintage with the power, intensity and framework of a suavely made Riserva. It flows beautifully and uninhibited across the palate, its cadence hooks you in and takes you on a delicious ride.
The reviews below are strong, so strong I couldn't choose one to leave out. It’s a characterful Riserva with a pedigreed fruit source made by a genius touch. It’s the culmination of many years of hard work, adaption, innovation, planning and careful consideration.
It's a Riserva, not a lot was made. We're offering this prized Tuscan for $80 each in a 6 pack or $75 each in a 12 bottle buy - that's 25% off! Fill your cellar with this sophisticated sangiovese.
Cheers
