Poggio al Sole
The modern history of Poggio al Sole began with the sale of the property
to a Swiss family, the Davaz's in 1990. With a background in winemaking they
started the process of renovating the 37-acre property at Tavarnelle. In the
ensuing years the main responsibility has fallen to son Johannes who has
transformed the estate, putting in a low-yield policy and a state-of-the-art
winery. It is testament to his skill and persistence that the wines have, in
this very short space of time, become one of the better estate's in the zone.
Moreover, this and their other wines frequently feature in the highly regarded
awards from Gambero Rosso. We were particularly impressed by the stable of
Poggio al Sole wines when we tasted the wines at VinItaly this year.
