Paitin

Readers will find much to admire in these gorgeous wines from Paitin, a small grower based in Neive. ANTONIO GALLONI

In 1796 Benedetto Elia (Paitin) purchased a vineyard of 2 hectares in the Serra Boella Cru just to the south east of the town of Neive. 30 years later he bought 2 more hectares of Nebbiolo and Barbera vineyards, with a house and cellar. In 1893 his grandson Giuseppe restructured the cellar and started to bottle Barbaresco Sorì Paitin. After seven generations, in 1965, Secondo Pasquero Elia took over the winery and now runs it with Secondo and sons Giovanni and Silvano assisted by famed consultant oenologist Dante Scaglione a friend from school days who still consults at Giacosa.
