Neudorf Chardonnay has long been one of New Zealand's greatest white wines MICHAEL COOPER
Neudorf are one of my favourite New Zealand producers, and though the wines are generally tasted blind, it is hard to separate the wonderful Finn family, and their vision writ large in their wines, from the consumption and assessment of their wines. Late 70s pioneers of Nelson, they continue to excel. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front
I cannot think of another New Zealand wine producer that has been making top wines across their entire range as consistently as Neudorf over three decades. Chardonnay is the star with Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc very close behind. BOB CAMPBELL MW
A lot of fire power with Chardonnay at Neudorf. MIKE BENNIE
One of New Zealand’s most admired producers. Tim and Judy Finn have a great track record. JANCIS ROBINSON MW
Over the last few years I feel like Neudorf has found yet another gear with their collection of Chardonnays. Don't get me wrong, these have long been in the top handful coming to us from across the ditch, but more recently they have reached a point where they are rivalling the likes of Kumeu River and Bilancia for pole position. It's hard to pin down exactly, but I feel like there's a a little more finesse and refinement, a little more depth and focus to the wines too. What's even better though is that the prices have remained stable, making them value here extraordinary. Others seem to have taken notice too though and these wines, which have long been under-the-radar industry secrets, are now selling out quickly upon release.
Neudorf's Chardonnays have a quiet, almost restrained sophistication that I find facinating. There's a stunning balance at play here—rich, powerful fruit that’s not overbearing, yet there's this underlying tension, a vibrancy, and a mineral edge that keeps things fresh and alive. They’re textural, but in a way that feels natural, unforced—everything just falls into place. The fruit is ripe, full of flavour, and buoyed up by this racy, mouth-watering acidity that drives the wine forward. It’s intense, it’s electric, and there's a vitality that runs through the entire range, an x-factor that puts these ahead of their many well qualified brethern.
"Perfectly poised between power and precision" and "quietly impressive wine of nuance and detail". The reviews below do paint a great picture of Neudorf's Rosie's Block Moutere Chardonnay. I agree wholeheartedly on both those fronts. For me it's a wine that whispers class and pedigree, tightly wound, long and complex, a masterpice of light, shade and form over bold strokes of colour. Superb.
