Mewstone

Mewstone Wines - Tasmania

Born and raised in the land of milk and potatoes (North West Tasmania) wine was never on the agenda growing up. But it seems that daily life at a desk wasn't either. A false start in Economics lead to a deep and meaningful with Dad, ‘Pick an industry you love and explore what it has to offer, you’ll find something you really want to do’.

With that in mind I headed off to New Zealand to study a Post Grad at Lincoln in Christchurch. Fifteen years on, countless jobs and addresses later, and it turns out he was right. My ideal job involves growing grapes, making wine, and chatting to folks about it. The many facets that make up this industry all appeal to me especially when I get to do them in Tasmania.

Along the way I was lucky enough to travel Australia, explore New Zealand and work in Italy and Canada. The want to come home to Tasmania led to time behind a bar and on the road distributing, and then back into the winery at Moorilla.

When my brother asked if we could grow grapes at what is now the sight for Mewstone, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. We planted our first vines less than nine months later. It been exciting to watch a paddock become a vineyard, produce fruit and finally roll a bottle of wine down the line.
