Matrot

Everything is thought out chez Thierry but he does not necessarily march to the same drumbeat as his neighbours. JASPER MORRIS MW

As I wrote last year, the style at this important 19-hectare domaine is pure and understated, minimal wood influence meaning that it is the grapes — and the climats that shape them — that are front and centre at all times, and positive evolution is taking place. WILLIAM KELLEY, Wine Advocate

Matrot is all about an unhindered transfer of terroir in to the bottle, the most pure and direct expression of terroir. Here all the barrels are seasoned in their Bourgogne (giving that wine an extra dimension and complexity for its category) and only older wood is used to raise their Meursaults. The results are exhilarating. The 18s have great density and power but also wonderful minerality and a fresh cut to the fruit. It’s a tremendous release from Matrot, who remain one of the appellation’s top names. ROSCOE
