Who isn’t going to love six great Pinots from some of the world’s leading producers? Like the Mini Blanc pack, quantities here are tight; just 12 are available again. Burgundy, Central Otago, the Yarra, Mornington, Tasmania, and the far Sonoma Coast all feature. It’s a serious line-up.

From Kooyong, the 2023 Pinot Noir delivers classic Mornington character, finely structured with plush fruit and savoury poise. Yering Station’s 2024 Estate Pinot shows why this Yarra Valley icon remains so reliable, embracing the region’s filigree texture and detail beautifully. Tasmania is represented by Pooley Wines Cooinda Vale 2023 - Anna Pooley’s wines have near-cult status for good reason, and this release is all elegance, charm and pure drinkability.

From Martinborough, Ata Rangi Crimson 2023 continues to evolve beyond its “second wine” status, now a confident, standalone Pinot with depth and precision. Burgundy comes courtesy of Domaine Philippe Collotte Marsannay Les Grasses Têtes 2022 a finely structured, characterful and superb example from the northern Côte de Nuits. Finally, Peay Vineyards West Sonoma Coast 2023 blends several vineyard sites into a Pinot that marries New World fruit with Old World restraint and class.

Six regions. Six outstanding producers. One very limited Pinot pack.

Kooyong Pinot Noir 2023 375ml

Fruit off the four single blocks, each of which make up their own wine. Here it’s a super fragrant, juicy combo of red and black cherries, fresh herbs, loads of Middle Eastern spices, sumac, clove and Chinese five-spice; a baker’s delight really. The palate is on the lighter side of mid-weighted, with lots of fresh acidity keeping this buoyant, tannins light and fine. Smart outcome given a difficult vintage. (93) JANE FAULKNER, Halliday Wine Companion

Set on the gently rolling slopes of the Mornington Peninsula, Kooyong has long been regarded as one of the region’s benchmark estates. With a strong focus on site expression, the winery farms several distinct vineyard parcels, each bottled separately to highlight subtle shifts in soil, aspect and microclimate.

Pinot Noir is the heart of Kooyong’s story. These are wines of purity and poise, finely structured, fragrant and quietly powerful. They capture what Mornington does best: tension, texture and a sense of place without excess weight.

Across the range, the emphasis is on balance and precision, but it’s their Pinot that truly stands out consistently among the finest examples in the country.

Yering Station Pinot Noir 2024 375ml

SPECIAL VALUE - Matured in 500L French puncheons (13% new). Fruit from Yering, Coldstream and Gruyere. A light, bright crimson. A pretty wine with its bouquet of strawberry, raspberry, floral notes and cinnamon spice. There's good persistence, too, on the gently mouth-filling palate with supple, fine-grained tannins rounding out a wine to drink now and over the next four to six years. (93) PHILIP RICH, Halliday Wine Companion

You’d ask for a second glass. This is a light Pinot Noir with some extra insistence. It tastes of cranberries, red cherries and strawberries, as drivers, but it’s the lacing of sweet spice, toast, undergrowth and cedar that helps to clinch it. It’s a wine of tension, complexity and charm; it’s delicious to drink. (92+) CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

Pooley Cooinda Vale Pinot Noir 2023 375ml

Sourced from the outstanding Cooinda Vale vineyard in Campania, Coal River Valley; 15% whole bunch, 11 months' maturation in French oak, 30% new. Bright ruby with aromas of red cherry, redcurrant and red plum cut with hints of fine spice, amaro, crushed rock, leaf litter, char siu, game meats, distant truffle and earth. The Pooley wines are so beautifully composed and calm. There is a real sense of grace on the palate, its travel long, true and balanced, its drinkability and elegance undisputed. (96) DAVE BROOKES, Halliday Wine Companion

The Tasmanian winemakers are very good at popping cans of beer as ballast into boxes of samples. Joe Holyman sometimes with the Boags Red, Peter Dredge with the odd tin of Cascade, and in this box, Justin Bubb put in a couple of cans of Birra Moretti, bless him! It’s plus one point for all winemakers who do this. Only joking, if that were the case, then this would get 97 points, though I’m kind of tempted to go there.

This is just superb. It has perfume, ripe strawberry and cherry, shows a little creamy spicy oak at this early stage, though it’s good oak and it sits well within the wine. It’s plush, yet stony and fine, concentration of fruit is outstanding, and the mouth-feel is wonderful. It’s super long. It has some gently earthy character, and that fine ‘mineral’ acidity closing it out is so nice. This is an absolute banger. (93) GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2023 375ml

Ata Rangi is one of New Zealand's most respected Pinot Noir producers, offering nuance and complexity. The wines always manage balance and ripeness of fruit with a delicate hand, extricating fine tannins. Long-time winemaker Helen Masters nails it every year every season… REBECCA GIBB MW

Ata Rangi is the crowned king of New Zealand Pinot Noir. It has been making stunning wine for a long time; experience, vine age and a great vineyard site giving a competitive edge. DECANTER MAGAZINE

A departure from the typically broad-shouldered expression of Crimson, this is a reflection of the 2023 vintage. Instead of making three single vineyards, plus the estate pinot and the Crimson pinot in 2023, winemaker Helen Masters responded to the cool, wet conditions by crafting an estate-wide blend for the Crimson as the only still pinot noir in the cellar that year. This is clearly a lighter year, but there’s also a delicate, elegant side which emerges from the shadows—it’s an ethereal wine which speaks in whispers and echoes.

Light ruby. Floral, delicate nose with subtle aromas of pot-pourri, wild berry and rosehip. A light, crisp palate with crystalline, light-weight tangy flavours and a subtly savoury finish which rests on bony, chalky, fine tannins. Volnay-esque in its expression of lightness and clarity, like lace stained with cherry. Accessible now but it will unfurl and evolve within the context of its more contemplative, delicate style, at least in the mid-term. STEPHEN WONG MW, Real Review

Domaine Philippe Collotte Marsannay Les Grasses Tetes 2023 375ml

From two parcels of old vines; one based on Crinoidal limestone (known in France as Calcaire à Entroques), the other Comblanchien. Isabelle Collotte describes this terrior as having “blig clay and big rocks”, despite that we find this cuvee of Marsannay to be the cuvee with best balance and elegance and particularly so in 2023. This wine is very perfumed and pure with real depth, yet showing a lovely minerality and elegance, finishing with great length and very fine tannins.

The Collottes have been grape growers in Marsannay for four generations, but it wasn’t until 1981 that a young, 16 year-old Philippe Collotte bottled the first wine under the name of Domaine Collotte. He subsequently leased some mature vineyards of about 40 years of age in both Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, to further expand the domaine’s repertoire.

In 2013 Philippe was joined by his daughter Isabelle, who had just completed her viticulture and oenology studies at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Whilst Isabelle focusses particularly on the production of the domaine’s white wines, there is no doubt that her addition to the team has helped refine the quality of the wines across the board. Today Domaine Collotte farms 17ha of vines (16ha currently in production) in Marsannay, Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny.

Peay Vineyards West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2023 375ml

The 2023 Pinot Noir West Sonoma Coast has alluring aromas of cranberry, rooibos tea, mossy bark, mushrooms and bitters. The medium-bodied palate features concentrated, crunchy fruit and well-integrated new oak spice. It’s structured by grainy tannins and juicy acidity and has a long, flavorful finish. 1,700 cases were made. (92) ERIN BROOKS, The Wine Advocate

The 2023 Pinot Noir (West Sonoma Coast) is brilliant. Bold, racy and punchy, with terrific energy, the 2023 is a delight. Red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and orange peel are all front and center. Clean mineral notes frame the long, nuanced finish. Most of this fruit is from the Peay estate. This mid-weight Pinot has a lot to offer. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

The wines, and the people, of Peay epitomise the small production, artisanal, farm first winemaking that makes this part of Northern California so exciting. That has established Sonoma as one of the greatest areas for Pinot and Chardonnay on the globe.

Stuck out in the middle of the nowhere in Sonoma. I mean truly remote, surrounded by old growth forests, ages from anywhere but only a handful of miles from the Pacific Coast, as the crow flies, the place is like something out of a story. No phone coverage out in these parts, so no google maps. Directions are hand written and include such directions gems as "if you see the post pox with the orange stripes, you have gone too far, turn around and drive back 1.3 miles". Like going back in time and trying to find your way around.
