Malvira
Malvira is one of the pioneering producers of the Roero zone just north of Barolo. Starting in the mid-1950s, Giuseppe Damonte recognised the potential of the soil and aspects that, although not identical to those in Barolo or Barbaresco, shared enough similarities to start growing grapes for quality wines. Of course, being Roero, the main game has always been the white Arneis (more than 70% of total production in the zone) but nebbiolo and barbera have always produced beautiful red wines here.
These days Malvira is run by Guiseppe's two sons Roberto and Massimo and they have an unerring committment to quality despite having now grown to be one of the larger producers in the area. Today the range extends across multiple varietals including Riesling, Pinot Noir but the wines of real interest remain the stalwart Arenis, Barber and Nebbiolo.
