Main Ridge
Quietly spoken and charming Nat and Rosalie White founded the first commercial winery on the Mornington Peninsula, with an immaculately maintained vineyard and equally meticulously run winery. In December 2015, ownership of Main Ridge Estate passed to the Sexton family, following the retirement of Nat and Rosalie after 40 years. Tim and Libby Sexton have an extensive background in large-scale hospitality, first in the UK, then with Zinc at Federation Square, Melbourne, and the MCG. Son James Sexton completed the Bachelor of Wine Science degree at CSU in 2015. Nat will continue as a consultant to Main Ridge. JAMES HALLIDAY
The 2016 harvest marked the first full year the Sexton family worked after their purchase of Nat White and family’s wine farm (the Sextons had evidently been spending quite an amount of time on the property through 2015, however). Though the baton may have been passed, Nat White continues to work alongside the incumbent Sextons. Here’s what you’d call ‘the first releases of the new era’, though it feels like nothing has changed. Stoic, serious pinot noir vibes abound. MIKE BENNIE
