Luigi Oddero
While many will know the name Oddero as one of the great houses of the Langhe hills, fewer will know that this great estate was quite recently split in two (2006) after a falling out within the family saw a brother-against-brother divide that cut the 60 hectares of holdings in half. This means there are now two Oddero's of note to be aware of: the original Oddero under the same name as it has always been, and the newer Vigneti Luigi Oddero now run by Luigi's wife (he has passed away), her brother and a tight knit team. This estate is firmly in the "one to watch" category as the quality of the vineyard holdings are formidable (Vigna Rionda and Rocche dei Rivera to name a couple) and the estate's recent investments in the cantina will result in increasingly great wines. On top of that the consulting winemaker, Dante Scaglione, formerly of Bruno Giacosa means that the wines are made from the traditionalist handbook. PWS
