The centrepiece is always our Short Flat vineyard, where the oldest plantings date back to 1923. The soil profile in this dry-grown vineyard is unlike that of any of our other vineyards, providing the Vat 1 with its amazing length and depth of fruit.

The Speri’s presence in this winemaking heartland goes back to 1874, though the original homestead and cellars are even older - 1580. From generation to generation for well over a century, the Speri family have handed down a heritage of pride in their land and passion for its fruits. The family operation now comprises of Carlo (pr/admin), vineyardists Eliseo, Marco and Giampietro, winemakers Paolo and Alberto, marketing manager Giampaolo, and the fifth generation Luca and Chiara Speri.
The family now have 60 hectares of autochtonous vines in the finest Classico districts, divided into three distinct crus; La Roverina, Sant’Urbano and La Roggia. Already knows that vineyard pretty well, with a little help from his friends. He’s into bottling separate parts of his vineyards. I’m into it too, fair to say.
Floral vanilla tinged top note here – very pretty – lime and tangy citrus that flows along so well with a gentle talc feel to the texture: it just sits so beautifully on the palate. Line. Length. Australian glass artist and printmaker, Brian Hirst creates some of the most visual and tactile wine decanters. Brian's standing in the art world is revered - his pieces are exhibited throughout the world, including galleries in Sydney, New York and Paris - in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
His interest in functional design has led to the creation of charismatic and stunning decanters which we're offering today. These are fluid yet functional designs, beautiful to hold and use.
This bowling ball G+B decanter was a collaboration between friends Giorgio de Maria (leading Italian importer) and artist Brian Hirst (hence the name G+B). A former sommelier, Giorgio helped design a decater that moulds into your hand, making it a pleasure to use.
