Le Chiuse Brunello Lunch

Today the historic property of Le Chiuse is run by Lorenzo Magnelli, who took over his family estate in 2006. The original vineyard land of the current property was used for the Riserva for Biondi-Santi, but when Tancredi Biondi-Santi passed away, the Biondi-Santi estate was divided between his son, who carried on the family’s winemaking tradition and received the largest section of the estate, and his daughter, who did not have a passion for wine, but promised her father to hold onto this smaller portion for the next generation. Lorenzo’s parents took over the winery with the first vintage in 1982 and changed the name to Le Chiuse in 1992. AUDREY FRICKE

Based in the northern zone of Montalcino, just below the town, Le Chiuse looks across to the famed hill of Montosoli. The estate has been in the hands of Simonetta Valiani—great-granddaughter of Ferruccio Biondi-Santi—and her husband Niccolò Magnelli since 1993, with vineyards that carry remarkable historical weight.

These sites once contributed fruit to the original Biondi-Santi Riserva, and still contain genetic material from those early plantings. Today, their son Lorenzo leads the estate, bringing both deep familiarity and quiet conviction. The wines reflect this lineage: poised and complex, balancing refinement with underlying power, and built on a firm tannin structure that ensures graceful ageing.

Lorenzo has worked these vineyards since he was 14. He is intimately connected to the site and that shines through in his wines. They are a tiny producer, but the wines are wonderfully unique examples that regularly make their way into “best of” vintage lists year in year out. We are massive fans of the wines and believe they are some of the best to come out of the region.

We are thrilled to have Lorenzo joining us for this rare treat, where he will be taking us through his latest releases, including the 2020 and the latest 2021 Brunello, alongside a selection of Riservas and some other stellar drops from the estate.

This will be a small, intimate lunch, and one we highly recommend booking a spot. Bellota will be catering with some charcuterie and a main to go with these fabulous wines.
