Latour Giraud

Jean-Pierre Latour winked while observing that "2017 is like the perfect child whereas 2018 is like the naughty child that everyone loves anyway! While in some ways it's tempting to suggest that 2017 and 2018 made similarly styled wines, I don't see it that way. While it's true that some 2017s are actually very forward and already approachable, which can also be said about some 2018s, the two vintages are not constructed in the same fashion. The 2018s are super-aromatic whereas the 2017s are more restrained and more elegant. Both have their attributes and characteristics that will appeal to different consumers in different ways.” BURGHOUND

Latour Giraud, this is an estate that perhaps not as many people are familiar with as they should be. Jean-Pierre’s wines are great! Sophisticated and nuanced with carefully managed solids and lees adding detail while wood is handled in such a way that it is never intrusive but rather plays a supporting role to the intense and nicely concentrated fruit. They remind me of a few producers who get a lot more attention in Meursault, luckily they don’t yet have the price tags to match. The 18s I tasted are excellent, a beautiful marriage of power, energy and meticulous winemaking, the results are fantastic. These are now firmly on the list of Meursault producers that I believe savvy buyers should be hunting down, I will be grabbing some for myself. ROSCOE
