Chateau de Coulaine Chinon 2023

STAGE 9    Flat   Chinon > Châteauroux    174.1 km

“…in the wines of Château de Coulaine some remarkably pure, bright, lifted flavours. Looking specifically at the red wines, the colours are dark and rich, and yet the concentration that follows is never too fat or leaden, instead it comes as a very pure, defined, vinous concentration, with lovely purity of fruit, well-defined, with pencil-drawn lines and fine, dry but ripe tannins. The style is distinctive…. In short, they can be delicious.”
— winedoctor.com, Chris Kissack

Mostly from younger vines up to about 20 yo coming from slopes and on the plateau close to the chateau. This wine is vinified in large old cement tanks using indigenous yeast and aged in a combination of large old oak and cement tanks. Excellent depth of colour and notably deeper and richer in 2023 while still retaining freshness and balance. A real ‘vin de soif’ giving the extravagant raspberry perfume and thirst quenching freshness that Chinon is so well known for. Very fresh, very moreish.

Clos de Gamot Cahors ‘Gamotin’ Malbec 2022

STAGE 11     Flat   Toulouse > Toulouse    156.8 km

In the sixties, Jean Jouffreau was an iconic and flamboyant vigneron like Henri Jayer, Olga Raffault or JacquesReynaud (Rayas). Clos de Gamot was on the table of the presidents and sold by Christie’s. Le Clos de Gamot produce wines of great singularity, witha real depth and especially an intense expression of the fruit. With proven consistency, their wines are enjoyed with lots of pleasure. REVUE DES VINS DE FRANCE

Ripe black fruit, lead pencil, violets, a little earthy with coffee grounds, liquorice anddried herb. It’s medium-bodied, deep and silty, succulent dark plum, dried raspberry and blackberry, soft put present acidity, so much stuffing without being heavy, and a ripe finish sporting fleshy Turkish coffee tannin, and classic earthy Malbec flavours. So much personality and regional verity, and beautifully made too. Unreal. So highly recommended. (94) GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

Frederic & Daniel Brunier Megaphone Ventoux Rouge 2022

STAGE 16     Mountain Montpellier > Mont Ventoux 171.5 km

A blend of 80% Grenache Noir and 20% Syrah, the 2022 Megaphone Ventoux reveals aromas of crushed strawberries, dark berries, violets and spices. Moderately weighted, perfectly balanced and elegantly juicy, it’s fleshier than Pigeoulet and has a gourmand, fresh finish. Crafted with some whole bunches, it underwent a 25-day maceration, contributing to its structure and depth. YOHAN CASTAING, The Wine Advocate

A well-crafted, balanced and lively red with aromas of red berries, dried herbs, stones and baking spices. It's medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins. Vivid and quite intense at the entry with a kick of spices bringing energy. Plenty of verve and wildness to the clear fruit character and a precise finish. Drink or hold. JAMES SUCKLING

Coursodon St Joseph l'Olivaie 2021

STAGE 17    Flat Bollène > Valence 160.4 km

From a steep lieux dits, L’oliveie at the top of St Jean de Muzols from syrah vines planted in the 1940s on shallow granite soils
The 2021 Saint Joseph L'Olivaie is rock-solid, offering pretty darker cherry and fresh fig-like notes as well as spice, game, and flowery incense nuances. This medium-bodied, supple, nicely balanced, and textured effort has outstanding potential and will certainly drink nicely right out of the gate. JEB DUNNUCK

Tasted blind. Perfumed nose, violet, rose petal, damp earth and black pepper. Good fresh acidity and a tightly wound core of dark fruits with a smoked ashy note – pepper, spice and good intensity of dark fruits. Vibrant and robust, fine tannic structure should see this age very well. ALISTAIR COOPER MW

Dupasquier Savoie Mondeuse 2020

STAGE 19     Mountain Albertville > La Plagne 129.9 km

Tucked away in the foothills of the Alps, the Dupasquier family has quietly built a cult following for their soulful, traditionally made wines in Savoie. Their approach is resolutely old-school—long élevage, native yeasts, and minimal intervention—resulting in mountain wines with purity, texture, and unmistakable alpine character.

This delicious mondeuse offers intense notes of red fruits like cranberry and cherry, along with subtle hints of black pepper and spice. medium-bodied with a balanced acidity, and the tannins are firm yet well-integrated, complementing the fruit-forward profile. The finish is lingering, with a touch of minerality characteristic of the Savoie region.

Richard Rottiers Brouilly 2023

STAGE 20  Hilly    Nantua > Pontarlier 184.2 km

A rising star in Moulin-à-Vent, Richard Rottiers is helping to redefine what Beaujolais can be. Farming organically and working with old vines on granite soils, he crafts serious, structured expressions of Gamay that combine finesse with depth—proving that Beaujolais, when handled with care, can rival Burgundy in elegance and complexity.

Originally from Chablis, Richard established his estate in 2007 in the heart of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. He recognized the potential of the region's unique terroir, characterized by granite soils rich in manganese, which contribute to the wines' depth and complexity. The estate began with 3 hectares of old vines, some aged between 40 to 80 years. By 2012, Rottiers initiated the conversion to organic viticulture, achieving certification in 2015. Today, Domaine Richard Rottiers encompasses 12 hectares across Moulin-à-Vent, Brouilly, and Beaujolais-Villages.

This delightful Beaujolais beautifully showcases the finesse of the Gamay grape. On the nose, it offers enticing notes of red cherries, crushed stones, and rose petals. It's a fresh and medium-bodied wine, with a palate bursting with red fruit flavors like cherry, raspberry, and strawberry. The wine is round, fruity, and well-balanced with pleasant acidity, leading to a clean, smooth finish with a touch of minerality.
