HENSCHKE 70 YEARS OF MT EDELSTONE DINNER WITH ANDREAS HENSCHKE
Wednesday 12th August 6:30pm Start or 12 pm - 2pm
Founded in 1868, Henschke stands among the most important names in Australian wine. Through six generations of family ownership, the estate has played a central role in establishing the reputation of Australian fine wine both at home and abroad. While Hill of Grace has become one of the country's most celebrated labels, Henschke's contribution extends far beyond. Their unwavering commitment to old vineyards, site expression and longevity has helped define the upper echelon of Australian wine and cemented their place among the world's great family-owned estates.
This dinner celebrates a particularly significant milestone: the 70th release of Mount Edelstone. First bottled as a single-vineyard wine in 1952, Mount Edelstone is one of Australia's oldest and most important vineyard-designated wines. Planted in 1912 by Ronald Angas, the dry-grown vineyard sits on the eastern edge of the Eden Valley and has produced Shiraz continuously for well over a century. Long overshadowed by its famous sibling, Hill of Grace, Mount Edelstone has quietly built a reputation among collectors and critics as one of Australia's greatest vineyards, producing wines of remarkable consistency, longevity and finesse.
Over the course of the evening, we will explore the story of this extraordinary site through a selection of current and back vintages, providing a rare opportunity to witness the evolution of Mount Edelstone across the decades. Such occasions are increasingly uncommon, with mature bottles seldom seen outside private cellars.
To make the night even more special, we will have Chief Winemaker Gwyn Olsen, whose thoughtful stewardship of these historic vineyards continues the philosophy established by Stephen and Prue Henschke. Sharing and discussing the wines with those responsible for crafting the wines is a privilege rarely afforded outside the estate itself.
The night promises to be a very special evening, complemented by a specially designed multi-course menu. A celebration of not only a landmark release, but one of the great vineyards of Australian wine. There will be a very special three-course menu from the Bellota kitchen to accompany the wines.
