Saturday 20th May, 12pm -2pm Join us as we take you on a vinous journey around Greece. A country that has a history with the grapevine dating back more than 6000 years. It was the centre of the wine world in 500 BC subsequently passing the mantle, knowledge and sophisticated wine culture to the Romans. In 1453 BC, Ottoman rule diminished viticulture with oppressive taxes and the industry didn't gain momentum until after WWII. Greece’s wine history has never been more exciting, as young, dynamic producers work tirelessly to master the wealth of native varieties available to them. Greece has between 200 & 300 of them, with only around 80 that have been bottled and sold commercially. The most readily available wines in Australia are made from Assyrtiko, Xinomavro & Agiorgitiko. We will have a benchmark selection of these and more - think Malagousia, Moschofileiro, Limniona and friends. On top of that we are blessed to have some real live Greeks from the highly regarded Zafeirakis and Douloufakis here in the store all the way from Greece to take you through their wines and stories. If all you know of Greek wines is cheap Retsina, then you are going to be in for an incredible experience. Greek wine is going through an incredible rennaisance and their treasure trove of indiengous varietals provides a wonderful platform for producing wines of unique character and identity in styles that are vastly appealing to Australian palate in particular. We can't wait to see you there. Producers on show: Douloufakis Apostolos Thymiopoulos Christos Zafeirakis Kir-Yianni Sigalas Gaia More to come - List subject to change
