Giovanni Sordo
Giovanni Sordo has long been regarded by those in the know as one of the most compelling traditional producers in the Langhe hills, albeit not well known in this market. Located in the commune of Castiglione Falletto the family – over the last century – has acquired some of the best vineyard land on offer and now, in the age of the single cru, it is clear they made spectacular choices! In all there are eight crus in the stable and they are all regarded as “Grand Cru” sites, including Gabutti, Perno, Villero, Monvigliero, Rocche di Castiglione, Parussi, Ravera and the fabled Monprivato!
While a house of this age has naturally had its share of generational change and some ups and downs in quality, they are presently in an epoch that will give rise to their greatest wines. PWS
