Dunn Vineyards

AVA: Howell Mountain
Anyone who has regularly tasted Randy Dunn's Cabernet Sauvignons (first produced in 1979) realizes several things. They all possess the following characteristics: (1) remarkable color and richness, (2) massive personalities with huge tannic structures, (3) gorgeous purity and unreal aging potential... It is not far-fetched to suggest that Randy Dunn is producing Cabernet Sauvignons that, in top vintages, will be fresh, lively, and rich in fruit at age 50....For those with patience, these are among the finest values in long-lived, classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. ROBERT PARKER

For those familiar with the greatest wines of California Dunn will need no introduction as it has long been held in the absolute highest regard by enthusiasts, reviewers and collectors. Started in 1972 by Randy Dunn and his wife in the sub appellation of Napa Valley, Howell Mountain, which is higher in altitude that most Napa estates allowing for slower ripening which results in wines of excellent concentration and depth but with proper flavour and tannin ripeness and higher natural acidity. I recently heard someone refer to these wines as the Wendouree of America, that resonated strongly with me as both wines show similar attributes and longevity, and both are as highly sought after by collectors in the know.
