Cullen Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2012

Brisk, frisky, crisp, cutting. Lively, darting wine from start to finish. Lime and green pineapple, (gentle) thistles and a soft, gummy, textural element. It’s a young, fresh, (mostly) unwooded white and so it’s suitable for early consumption, but the daring line of acidity suggests it will be better drinking given a few years to soften. Medium intensity flavour-wise, if not a little on the lean side. Some patience required. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, winefront.com.au
As usual, this blend contains a greater volume of Sauvignon Blanc than Semillon, which reflects the outstanding qualities of the fruit produced by the former variety on the Cullen Vineyard, while recognising that it can still be enhanced by the complimentary characteristics of the latter variety. The fruit was picked at optimal ripeness, which was represented by Baume’s of only 9.6° – 11.9°, resulting in the highly desirable production of an alcohol concentration of only 10.9%. Complexity and completeness have been enhanced through maturing a substantial component of the wine in new oak. VANYA CULLEN, Winemaker
