Coldstream Hills
Founded by the author, who continues to be involved as a consultant, but acquired by Southcorp in mid 1996, Coldstream Hills is now a small part of Treasury Wine Estates, with 100ha of owned or managed estate vineyards as its base. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir continue to be the principal focus; Merlot came on-stream in 1997, Sauvignon Blanc around the same time, Reserve Shiraz later still. Vintage conditions permitting, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are made in both varietal and Reserve form, the latter in restricted quantities. In 2010 an entirely new, multimillion dollar winery was erected around the original winery buildings and facilities; it has a capacity of 1500 tonnes. JAMES HALLIDAY.
