A more dusty and herbal expression of this wine, but with a deep, lustrous core of fruit that should enable it to develop over a long period. A heady, floral and musky perfume of small red and black berries, fresh new cedar oak and exotic spice reveals nuances of dried herbs and a faint meatiness. Supple and medium-bodied, with intense layers of dark, pastille-like fruit, some stalky herbal notes and meaty undertones, it's framed by a fine, dusty extract and finishes with exemplary length and acidity. JEREMY OLIVER
Has the best colour of the '12 Clonakilla red wines, hardly a surprise; the bouquet is supremely fragrant, almost flowery/scented, the palate instantaneously imprinting its total harmony and balance; fruit, oak and tannins are all seamlessly interwoven, the length prodigious. Low yields were the secret. JAMES HALLIDAY
It's explosively fragrant, exotically spicy and refreshingly tangy … superfine, impeccably crafted tannins of immense presence. Cellar for a decade and drink with game. 96 points - TYSON STELZER
This vintage of Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier is an easy one to both rate and enjoy.
In some ways it’s perfect. Perfect, filligreed tannin. Perfect meaty style. Wonderful spicy aromatics. And terrific length. For overall style, deliciousness, and enjoyability it’s as good as any Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier release yet. It should also grow into itself beautifully; it has medium-weight cellarability tattooed all over it. Sleeves of black cherry and Asian spice, a torso of licorice and smoky oak. There is though a lingering sense of diluteness about the wine; it’s perfectly ripe and masterfully drawn, but the flavours are in water colours. This does not detract from the enjoyment a jot.
