If you're going to follow a Wine of the Year, you may as well do it with another classic. Beautifully measured, balanced, perfumed and textured, this remarkable wine truly underscores the international quality of this label. Could it be improved? While I'd like to see less viognier, its inlfuence does become less overt with time in bottle, as this wine shows with extended aeration. That's a bet each way! (97) JEREMY OLIVER
A near perfect Shiraz/Viognier (19.5/20 in my notes) with sensational balance in spite of its youth, Clonakilla rules the roost with this succulent blend and the race is on to secure stock because only a small quantity of this wine is made each year. If you would like to experience Tim Kirk's majestic winemaking for less than twenty quid, look no further than 2010 Hilltops Shiraz where you will find a mightily impressive crunchy blackberry and blueberry-infused delight.
