Ceretto

Once the poster child of all things modern, Ceretto continues to impress with an approach that combines the best of innovation and tradition. Today macerations are longer, the wines spend less time in oak and new oak levels are lower than in the past. ANTONIO GALLONI

Ceretto are one of the great  estates of the Langhe.  Essentially founded and set on it current path by brothers Bruno and Marcello in the 1960s the estate has become one of the most significant in Piemonte. Their holding stretch across Barolo and Barbarseco communes and further afield to Roero and beyond. In more recent times exciting developments in both vineyards and cellar have been happenning apace with current winemaking head Frederico (ably assited by Aussie David Fletcher) gradually moving the vineyards to biodynamic viticulture - no mean feat for an estate of this size - and taking the wines in a new and much authentic direction where they reflect both vineyard characterics and, importantly, the vicissitudes of vintage. Despite their size Ceretto produce the Barolo crus in tiny quantities. They are Brunate, Prapo and Rocche in Barolo and Asili, Bernadot (Monsordo) in Barbaresco.

The current releases are a wonderful example of the new approach and they show a new vigour and energy as well as real connection to the soil in which they're grown. Barvo. PWS
