Castello di Verduno
Castello di Verduno are an historic and traditional estate located in Verduno, the northern most commune of Barolo.
The owners Franco Bianco and Gabriella Burlotto have a wine making story that dates back generations. When the two married, they bought the knowledge and land from two prestigious areas together - Franco from Barbaresco and Gabriella from Barolo - many in Piedmont say it was a marriage made in wine heaven!
Today the estate produces elegant and powerful wines from crus within both regions - Rabaja, Massara and Monvigliero.
In the vineyard Franco is staunchly traditional, everything is done by hand, and in accordance with organic wine making techniques. The same respect is seen in the cellar, where talented winemaker Mario Andrion, chooses to use indigenous yeasts, and to age their Barolo and Barbaresco in large Slavonian botti, allowing the wine to be a true expression of the Nebbiolo grape and its terroir.
