A very special dinner to kick things off in 2022 - highlighting the 2019s Robert Groffier, and a Corton Charlemagne bracket Thursday 24th March
Our first dinner of 2022, and really in quite some time. We are back in to it with our best foot forward.
No need to prevaricate, many of the wines on this list are already sold out. So, this is more a dinner to blow off the proverbial cobwebs and drink some amazing wine. Also, with the 20s from some of these producers due this year it's a nice reminder of the calibre of estates like Groffier, who features quite heavily in the line-up.
The dinner will also look at a few other favourites at PWS, where some wine is available should you be inclined, including Bonneau du Martray, Vilmart, Burguet and Matrot. To bolster that a little is Milemmann, a producer who has very quickly garnered some heavy duty attention in the region.
As briefly mentioned, Groffier features very heavily here. We began to import these remarkable wines just as covid really took hold and so we have not had many opportunities to share them with people.
The family are widely regarded as one of the region's most dedicated vignerons, often being compared to the likes of Denis Mortet for their dedication to their vineyards. The third, and equally important consideration is the recent shift in style here. Like so many of the region's super stars there has been a move away from the more blocky and extracted wines of old and towards a more transparent and site focused expression of Burgundy. Today they are utterly gorgeous and compelling expressions of some of the greatest vineyards on the planet.
To help put the Groffier wines into context we have reached into the PWS reserve to put them up against some benchmark producers - Comte George de Vouge and Armand Rousseau.
A Prince dinner without Champagne and some whites would seem a little odd though, so to balance it all out there is a bracket of Corton Charlemagne that should be a show stopper as well as the new Coeur de Cuvee 2013 from Vilmart to set the mood for the evening.
The dinner will include a very special menu from Nicky Reimer, to be announced soon, It A dinner to celebrate, the return to our usual run of producer focused events.
Places are limited to 12 customers and are $650 head. Dinner will kick off at 6:30pm on Thursday the 24th of March and we really hope you can make it.
Cheers
