Bird on a Wire

Bird on a Wire, where the Vineyard is the Signature.

My Bird on a Wire Wines portfolio is vineyard driven. I have been working with these vineyards since 2004 and they are exceptional sites, all specifically suited to their varieties.  All of my wines offer an intimate look at the season, vineyard and winemaking. My wines are textural, evolving, varietal and expressive of their subregion.

My two main vineyards focus on marsanne, chardonnay and shiraz. The two rhone varieties are grown in the north of the Yarra Valley and the chardonnay from the cooler climes of the Upper Yarra Valley. Both the marsanne and syrah winemaking is heavily influenced by time spent in the Northern Rhone. The chardonnay winemaking is very simple and focuses on traditional techniques from fruit picked from the 37 year old block which has great depth of character.

Winemaking changes from year to year to adjust for each season, rather than following a stylistic mantra. By doing this I hope to make the best wine possible for any given vintage,  always working to improve year after year to obtain the unobtainable, perfect wine. CAROLINE MOONEY
