The 2019 Block 5 is typical of this vineyard, established in 1992, showing layers of earth, spice, red and dark berries with a flamboyance and depth that puts it up with the very best Block 5 wines produced since 1996. The palate is fresh and supple, intense, vibrant, chewy, rich, perfumed, complex and satisfying. The dialed up intensity and power all contained within the harmonious framework tells of a wine that will reward 15 plus years of cellaring but, satisfyingly, will drink beautifully at any stage of its life. Sadly, production was 30% down in 2019 and 50% down in 2020. MICHAEL DHILLON
