Andreas Tscheppe

In 2015 Michael and I attended the huge wine fair in Germany called ProWein with the intention of catching up with half a dozen of our existing small producers who happened to be there. We weren’t expecting to find many new wines as in general it is a big fair with lots of commercial wines and spirits. However, our great friend Nicolas Potel’s wines from Domaine de Bellene were there with his German importer, a specialist of Bio-Dymanic and interesting small domaines. His stall was full of some great wines, many of which we are regularly selling at Prince Wine Store. But there was one producer who we had never seen who was making some incredible white wines ¬- Andreas Tscheppe.
This tiny 4ha estate is located in Südsteiermark in southern Austria right near the Slovenian border. He specialises in textural whites that have extend time on skins and barrel prior to release but the wines are incredibly fine and pure. Think Didier Dageneau

There are only two wines form the 2014’s that we tried in Germany. Both are unfortunately very limited but if you are interested in a great textual white with something a little different and a definite ‘x factor’ these are worth a go. Alex Wilcox
