ALTO PIEMONTE NEBBIOLO TASTING

Another set of winners this year and we are excited again to try through all these favourites.

The Sydney team is coming in strong with some great picks. A lovely mix of northern Rhone, the Macon, Alsace and a little trip to Tuscany too. A great time to introduce our newest member Rich from our latest adventure in Sydney running the David Jones store and coming in hot with a little spicy Zind Humbrecht gewurztraminer to get you in the holiday spirit.

Sara had to fight over her pick this year with Roscoe but she won that title match and the Domaine du Tunnel Cornas is sure to impress. Alex our main man in sales up north is a contender for white wine of show with his pick from one of the latest release Verget wines which were all massive fans of. Nick the Sydney store manager went with the utterly delicious Siro Pacenti Rosso. This lush and vibrant beauty captures all the best of modern Tuscany from one of its greats.

Heading down south Melbourne represents with some very interesting choices this year. Two sweet wines which we think is a first and Gab and Kayleen going with two vastly different, but equally delicious options. Kayleen is staying in tried-and-true territory (loves a bit of a Champagne she does) and the Vilmart Ratafia is sure to be a hit. Gab is going head-to-head with another sweet from our friend in northern Italy and a somewhat rare gem in the Ronchi di Cialla Verduzzo. This one will be tough to pick! And while we are talking Italy Lachlan our wholesale guru has gone with the epic 2021 Querciabella Chianti Classico. This is a stunner and one not to be missed!

Roscoe is leading the French charge with a wonderful new producer and an ethereal Gigondas from Domaine Gour de Chaulé. The rest is a thoroughly Italian affair, and I guess no surprises that the beautiful Langhe hills are featuring strong here. Matt and Franke have both gone the Nebbiolo route with Matt opting for the Francesco Rinaldi Langhe Neb while Franke is loving the latest Barolo from Massolino. Both of these wines are 100% Barolo fruit so let’s see how this goes down!

Myles, Paul and Allicia are making sure to keep thing fresh with some tasty whites for summer and something a little different to from our education coordinator Allicia and the skins pinot gris from Moorooduc. As she says, “It's gris, but not as you know it”. Paul has run to the hills in Italy and a beautiful blend from Terlano while Myles has headed back to his wine roots and will be pouring the Von Hovel Saar riesling.

Lucky last of course is the big guns of Prince. The head Honcho’s, the big cheeses. Michael and Alex have been guiding this rag-tag team all year and they deserver nothing but the best. Alex has gone with a fantastic but tiny producer from Champagne in the Lilbert & Fils Cramant NV. This chardy based beauty is everything you could want in great grower Champagne and more. Michael on the other hand has gone with a local legend and Yarra classic, Yeringberg Cabernets. The 2021 is stunning and this will undoubtably go down as one of the great release in decades to come.
