This one is for you all you Franco-philes! A mixed selection of some our favorite drinking from our little friends across the ditch.

Chablis and Sancerre are in there of course as well as some great Alsace wines too. Hard to go past one of the greatest white wines on the planet from of some the wine world's greatest producers and there are more than your fair share in here. In this case that means the ever popular Chantemerle Chablis, some tasty, just landed Sancerre and of course benchmark wines from Trimbach. Yeah, I think that will do the trick.

For the reds some tasty Bourgogne will kick things off nicely and the light and ethereal Raphet from the lush 2020 vintage should do just nicely. For something with a little more oomph the 2021 Mont Redon is a standout for the vintage and from one of its most consistent producers.

To finish we have something pretty special with the second wine from super-second growth Pichone Longueville. Another stand-out for the vintage and from a producer that continues to produce some of the best Bordeaux going around.

This one is a perfect combo of French treats, something you can reach for any time of the week and enjoy something really special.

Trimbach Reserve Riesling 2020 375ml

Super-ripe lemon, fresh pineapple and herb aromas pour from the glass of this medium-bodied, concentrated and sophisticated dry riesling. Completely dry, with excellent balance at the long, very clean finish. 100% estate fruit from Ribeauvillé and Bergheim. Drink or hold. (94) JAMES SUCKLING

La Chantemerle Chablis Fourchaume 1er 2023 375ml

THE 2022 - More intense and less simply citrus than the straight Chablis. Riper, and more textured, pithy lemon and grapefruit. The texture makes this wine. Long, too. JULIA HARDING MW, www.jancisrobinson.com

A step up in quality and intensity, but also a bity more tightly wound than the Village wine. Also, more awash with minerality, bordering on estuarine (a character I love with these wines), and that really brings the Chabliness to the fore. Along with a crisp, but ripe, array of fruit a little grip and a crunch of acidity, this is pretty textbook Fourchaume from Chantemerle and I think will expand well with a few years in the cellar, but that ample fruit and weight provides a tonne of upfront pleasure in the early days.

Gerard Raphet Bourgogne Rouge 2020 375ml

A very pinot nose features similar notes of fresh and ripe aromas where there is a bit more earth but less pepper character. The texture of the equally succulent and juicy flavors is a bit finer while terminating in a lingering and slightly more serious finale. BURGHOUND

Mont Redon Chateauneuf du Pape 2021 375ml

The deep nose of elderberries, wet earth and licorice pulls you into this full-bodied, concentrated but very elegant Chateauneuf. Very fine, focused tannins that counterpoint the juiciness on the mid-palate and drive the very long, bright and minerally finish. A grenache-based cuvee that is 60% from vineyards with galet cobblestones, 10% on sandy soils and the rest from limestone soil. Drink or hold. JAMES SUCKLING

Ripe black fruits, licorice, cloves and wood smoke present the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Medium to full in body, the 2021 offers good concentration and freshness yet demands at least three more years in bottle to further integrate the grippy tannins. That said, there’s enough substance to ensure positive development with extended bottle-aging. NICOLAS GREINACHER, Vinous

Reserve de la Comtesse 2017 375ml

This is a wonderful second wine, and a real success in a vintage where second wines are often punching below their weight. It's rich, plump, floral-edged and above all extremely drinkable. It has a juicy frame and it delivers. A 2% pinch of Petit Verdot adds spice (and is added only after the press wine, the absolute final step to add depth, if needed). They used no secondary fruit at all. This should be good to go in five to six years. Tasted several times. DECANTER

The 2017 Reserve de la Comtesse is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it strolls out of the glass with nonchalant notions of preserved red plums, black cherries, kirsch and black raspberries with wafts of wilted roses, cinnamon toast, fallen leaves and tilled soil. Medium-bodied, the palate is very pretty, with delicately played tannins and bags of freshness, finishing wonderfully fragrant. LISA PERROTTI-BROWN, The Wine Advocate
