Saracco Moscato d'Asti 2022 750ml

Paolo Saracco remains the reference point producer for Moscato d'Asti, with perhaps one or two close peers, and that is it. I have seen Saracco's vineyards, and they are great sites, but they aren't the only top Moscato vineyards, so I am perplexed why no one else can make wines at this level. But the truth remains that very few can, or are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to do so. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

The 2022 Saracco Moscato d'Asti is one of the best Saracco's I have ever tried. Super complex but fresh with a heap of acidity and palate length to boot. Ian D'Agata from Vinous, who describes Saracco Moscato as the 'DRC of Moscato d'Asti' sumed up the 2018 beautifully with this tasting note:

Even before Mondo was the importers for Saracco Moscato d'Asti in Australia, I always considered it be the best in the world. Each year I would visit the estate and try the new release wines. After a few years, Paolo Saracco offered us the Australian agency and for the last ten years, we have been proudly representing this amazing estate in Australia.

Luminous pale straw-green with golden tinges. Captivating aromas of orange blossom, lemon verbena, vanilla, sage and ripe grapefruit nectar. Dense, juicy and suave, presenting a multilayered, complex set of flavors similar to the aromas. The finish is very long, resonating with a floral topnote and delightful vibrancy. Outstanding, concentrated, complex and very pure Moscato d'Asti.'

Delatite Reserve Catherine’s Gewurztraminer 2022 (375ml)

Delatite is one of the few Australian makers to take gewürztraminer seriously. Here, a sweet, dessert style gewürz soars, revealing the beauty of the grape in a striking, sophisticated, elegant wine. So fine in detail, in jasmine and spring blossom, citrus, candied ginger, nectarine and exotic spices. Perfect balance achieved between sweetness and acidity. Caussade St Croix du Mont 2020 375ml

Sainte Croix du Mont is a little appellation lying next to Loupiac, facing Sauternes and Barsac. Chateau La Caussade overlooks the Garonne at Sainte Croix du Mont, 40 kilometres south east of Bordeaux. This tiny 6 hectare plot produces such a wonderful example of the famous bortrytised wines of the region with a track record that any producer would be envious of.

Often a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle this wine is 100% Semillon and it presents with a more zingy and fresh framework because of it. That play beuatifully into though richly sweet core of fruit accenting the wild fig, apricot and peach with a lemon rind zesty-ness. Pronounced florals of jasmine and honeysuckle delight on the nose while the finish is long and fresh. What a treat!

Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified 2007 375ml

While this is beautifully fresh, it has morphed into a very fine aged fortified. Woodsy, earthy tones with coffee and vanilla, blackberry essence and brandy-esque flavours to the spirit. Lovely balance, clean with tannins adding a raw-silk texture. A lot of emotion infused into this: a fitting tribute to Chris Killeen's skill as a fortified winemaker. (95) JANE FAULKNER, Halliday Wine Companion

Deep, rich, burnished red colour with a tawny rim; the bouquet mellow, complex, rich and sweet. Licorice and blackberry aromas with star anise and spicy notes from the brandy spirit. The palate is still remarkably firm and structured, but also rich and sweet, the finish drying it off cleanly with well-balanced tannin, acid and spirit. Blackberry and espresso coffee flavours. It's drinking in its prime at 12 years of age. (Durif, touriga, tinta roriz, shiraz, tinta cão, tinta barroca) HUON HOOKE, The Real Review

Turkey Flat Pedro Ximenez NV

Renowned for producing fine wines in Jerez, Pedro Ximènez (or PX) can really excel in another part of the world. Intense marmalade aromas with some sweet spice and dried figs. The palate is lusciously rich with some pure marmalade and dried figs characters, very long, sweet and rich finish but with a good freshnes. DECANTER TOP 10 Australian Wines

“The other wine to look out for in the TF range is the unhinged NV Pedro Ximènez. This wine is a 100 Best Alumni and I often forget to mention but it really is a wickedly decadent pudding wine with all of the drunken raisin and fig notes you crave from this style of sweetie. MATTHEW JUKES, 100 Best Australian Wines

Luscious and sumptuous, the inviting bouquet shows dried fruit, toffee and potpourri aromas with a good seasoning of cake spice. The palate delivers creamy mouthfeel with seductive sweetness, well framed by juicy acidity, finishing delicious and immensely satisfying. Aged using a Solera system with an average age of 7 years. Christmas in a glass! Rich and intense with apricot and marmalade characters. This fortified Pedro Ximénez was made from grapes grown in one of the last remaining Pedro plantings in the Barossa Valley. Amazing!

This is a bit of a staff favourite too. A few of us sweet tooths are big fans of this bad boy and this is a very cool interpretation that isn't quite as intense concentrated as its orginators in Spain but is all the better for it. A little lighter on its feet and that's the way we like it.

Warres OTIMA10 Year Old Tawny Port 500ml

The NV Otima 10 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled in 2014. Tasted with a group of other "10s," this Otima was immediately recognizable simply because of its lighter color. Nothing else was close to it, including others that were more on the light side. This is a Tawny that's intended to be a bit different, lighter and more elegant, easier to drink. You'll either gravitate to its style or you won't. While it is not always going to be everyone's first choice in long-aged Tawnies, it succeeds well on its own terms and in its own context. Unctuous in texture, very sweet and remarkably elegant, this is most enhanced by its lovely and lingering finish, chock full of flavor. Never even a little bit heavy, and with the power, aromatics and concentration well constrained also, this should be an easy drinker that is universally popular. MARK SQUIRES, The Wine Advocate

A Gold medal-winner at the 2014 Decanter World Wine Awards. Gentle dried fruit with an attractive toasty, savoury character. Rich and suave with caramelised orange peel incisiveness combining freshness with the complexity of age. DECANTER
