Six reds and six whites matched to the cold snap that looks to be taking us through a long August ahead. While the weather may not be ideal the wine selection is and some cracking drops here to satisfy.
For the whites a mix from Italy, France, and Australia. From legendary producer Marcel Deiss a slippery and aromatic white blend with a little fat on its bones layered with wonderful fruit and spice. From another legend in Ronchi di Cialla we have their ribolla gialla looking a little racier and plenty of pep and lots to love. Last but not least the rare as hens teeth Dappled Chardonnay. It's been a while since we have seen this and we grabbed everything we could. This is jammed with flavour and will delight old-school and new-wave chardonnay lovers alike.
Sangioves rules the Montalcino hill and San Filippo's rosso di Montalcino is a shining example. That little extra oomph and richness from the Tuscan hills feel perfect here. Back home we have a couple of Aussie treats from Leewuin estate and Two Hands, both legends of their respective haunts. These are two benchmark examples of cabernet and shiraz from their spiritual home in Australia.
This pack is a delight of delicious drinking and the perfect way to see you through some cold and dreary days.
Ronchi di Cialla Ribolla Gialla DOC 2022

The 2021 Ribolla Gialla lifts from the glass with a mineral-inflected blend of crisp green apple and ground ginger. This washes across the palate with a tension-filled mix of salty minerals and zesty lime-tinged acidity, coming across as vividly fruity yet savory at the same time. Lemon zest and tart orchard fruits resonate as the 2021 finishes with admirable length. ERIC GUIDO, Vinous
Marcel Deiss Riquewhir 2021

A blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris and some Pinot Blanc, the 2021 Riquewihr was harvested along the Schoenenbourg Grand Cru, on the more exposed side of the grand cru Sporen, and from parcels towards Kientzheim. After some funky reduction has dissipated, luminous candied lemon notes appear. The palate, however, is fuller and seems buffered and airy, with very concentrated freshness, soft fruit and defining pithy bitterness that makes the mouth water. The finish is bone-dry and rapier-like, edged with ginger. (Bone-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous
This wine comes from the parcels of Domaine Marcel Deiss located on the end of Riquewihr (places called Engelsreben and Rosenbourg) conducted biodynamically. The siliceous superficial framework of these soils resting on deep marls, gives a wine extremely salivating, precise, robust, thick, aristocratic and cold in primitive youth, but fleshy. Complete and very long aging. This is the complex message of a vibrant fruit from a deep cold earth.
If you have never had the wines of Deiss this is a great place to start. He has always been adamant that the great wines of Alsace are 100% about place and grape second, so much so that he famous for his field blend wines that combine several grapes and that which for Deiss represent one of the great expressions of the region.
Dappled Appellation Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2023

WINE REVIEW / TASTING NOTE
A blend of upper and lower Yarra Vineyards - Clones P58, I10V1 and Dijon clones 76 and 95 - from vineyards in St Andrews, Steels Creek and Seville. All fruit is hand-picked and cooled overnight, followed by whole bunches being lightly crushed by foot before a long pressing when the un-sulphured juice is transferred straight to oak. The oak is a combination of 80% old and 20% new French Barriques, Puncheons and Demi-Muids. Ferments are allowed to start naturally (wild) and complete with no temperature control. The wine is not battonaged and left on lees for 10 months where some MLF may have occurred, but not encouraged, and SO2 is added when the wine is ready for it. The wine is lightly filtered before being bottled un-fined.
Stunning aromas of pear, yellow stone fruits, and baked apple. There is heaps of complexity with hints of flint, smokey oak and toasted almonds. The palate is refined and textured; stone fruit and citrus flavours dominate. It is so light and airy with a lovely thread of cool acidity to it.. Flavours last for a good deal of time. Its ripe and with plenty of punch but its all held together seamlessly with top-notch winemaking.

Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz 2020

Sourced from the top of Menglers Hill in the Eden Valley, matured for 18 months in French oak (15% new). Deep crimson in hue with deep cassis and black cherry along with hints of clove, five-spice, mountain herbs, licorice, earth, ironstone and rum and raisin chocolate. Herb and spice-flecked cassis and kirsch fruits on the palate with tight powdery tannins, fine acidity and a slightly broody finish at this stage of its evolution. DAVE BROOKES, Haliday Wine Companion
We were thoroughly impressed with the latest release from Two Hands which are embracing the best new wave wines coming out of the region. This encompasses that beautiful fruit weight and power from the Barossa tempered with Eden's cooler reaches to bring some wonderful light and shade to the final wine rather the one dimensional wines of the past from many in the region. These have always been good but this new breed is great!
Leeuwin Estate Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

The nose is energetic, youthful, vibrant, and perfumed. Sage, bay leaf, cumin and dried rosemary are surrounded by a dark core of blackcurrants, cherries, and blueberries. Underlying notes of olive tapenade, dehydrated beetroot, cacao, coffee bean, and anise combine throughout.
The palate has elegance, fragrance, and ethereal acidity, whilst being open and present. Generous black fruits meet savoury spice, subtle oak, and a granitic feel. Iodine and black tea notes weave intensity into the fruit core. The tannins are silky and seamless, with enviable length. A delicate and expressive vintage.
